Things to do in Dubai

Surrounded by desert and bordering the Persian Gulf, Dubai has a reputation for making any visitor's dreams come true. From dizzying skyscrapers to traditional souks, the city is a masterpiece of engineering and a symbol of endless ambition. Whether you love adventure, luxury or theme parks, Dubai will be a daydream - a kaleidoscope of endless possibilities.

Top six things to do in Dubai

1. Climb the Burj Khalifa

As the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa is a must-see attraction in Dubai. Whizz up to the observatory on the 124th and 125th floors – ‘At the Top,’ or brace yourself to go right up to the 148th floor to ‘At the Top, Burj Khalifa SKY’ to enjoy 360-degree panoramic views of the city and desert. And once the experience is over, take a stroll through Burj Park, a futuristic man-made island in Downtown Dubai with a contemporary vibe, the best place to view the iconic skyscraper in all its grandeur.

2. Explore the Dubai Marina district

Dubai Marina, home to glittering towers and luxury yachts, is one of the most visited neighbourhoods in Dubai. With its two famous walkways (The Walk and The Promenade), the sophisticated design of its buildings, and the manicured beach, Dubai Marina is a must-see on your trip to the Emirate. It is also the perfect place to spend a special evening, dining at one of the many world-renowned restaurants or joining a starlit evening dinner cruise in a traditional dhow.

3. Take a trip into Dubai Desert

Get away from the buzz and bustle of the city and venture into the golden dunes of the Dubai Desert. Join a guided tour that will take you, in complete safety, to discover this natural spectacle. Choose from a variety of activities, from dune bashing and sandboarding to a classic camel ride. As the sun goes down, soak up some traditional Emirati culture and experience belly dancing shows, henna painting, and try the local cuisine. All under an incredible starry sky.

4. Visit the Dubai Aquarium

The Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo is located inside the vast Dubai Mall and houses more than 140 different marine species. The visit begins with a walk through the renowned 48-meter-long underwater tunnel where you’ll get a close-up look at one of the world's largest aquariums. Take your experience to the next level with one of the exciting activities available, such as a cruise on the surface aboard a transparent-bottomed boat and the exciting Shark Encounter, a face-to-face rendezvous with sharks from inside an underwater cage.

5. Discover Dubai Creek

It was in this very neighbourhood, built on the banks of a waterway - the Creek - that Dubai began its journey as a fishing village. Today’s city is markedly different, but it’s at Dubai Creek that the past collides with its contemporary charm. Hop on a traditional abra (a water bus) that will take you from one side of the canal to the other for a minimal charge, passing by ancient merchant dhows. Explore souks of spices, textiles or precious jewellery, losing yourself in the colours and scents of a timeless tradition.

6. Have fun in Dubai's Theme Parks

If you're travelling with the family or you're an adrenaline lover, be sure to devote at least a day to Dubai's theme parks. There are plenty of them, from the Bollywood-themed Bollywood Parks to Motiongate, dedicated to the magical world of Hollywood. For the little ones, LEGOLAND® Dubai is a must-see, with its indoor attractions and water rides. Finally, IMG Worlds of Adventures has six different themed areas, from the Marvel zone to the spooky Haunted Hotel, and it’s one of the largest indoor amusement parks in the world.

Plan your trip to Dubai

When’s the best time to visit Dubai?

Dubai has a desert-tropical climate, with very high temperatures during the summer and warm, sunny winters. Rainfall is limited and the climate tends to be dry. That's why the best time to visit Dubai is during the winter months, November through March, and early spring. August is the hottest month.

How many days should you spend in Dubai?

Dubai is a very large city whose attractions are relatively spread out. Allow at least three days to visit its most famous attractions and iconic neighborhoods. However, five days is the ideal amount of time to take your time and include an enticing desert excursion in your itinerary. With a week available, you could also consider a day trip to nearby Abu Dhabi.

What are the best areas to stay in Dubai?

If you have a busy schedule and it is your first time in Dubai, the best areas to stay are Downtown Dubai, where the Burj Khalifa is located, and Dubai Marina with its sophisticated atmosphere. If you are looking for unbridled luxury from your Dubai vacation, stay at The Palm Jumeirah, where the iconic Atlantis, The Palm hotel is located. Finally, for an older and more authentic atmosphere, opt for Deira, which is cheaper and conveniently close to the airport.
